A night of big upsets and historic moments took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico just one day before Easter. As promised, Superkombat debuted in America and their inaugural show was a big success. A number of last minute card changes took place, including two fights that were scheduled to be on the FighBox portion of the event, which were moved to the main card.
There will be a full report on this event on the next episode of The FightBox Podcast on Wednesday. The full results can be found below.

Main Event for the Superkombat New Heroes World Championship
-65 kg: Angela Whitley (Puerto Rico) def. Cristiana Stancu (Romania) by TKO, referee stoppage, 3rd rd.
In what was her professional debut fight, Puerto Rico’s Angela Whitley defeated the heavily favored Cristiana Stancu of Romania in the main event of the New Heroes card. Whitley seemed to have Stancu’s number by the second round and dominated the fight in the clinch with knees. Stancu was down twice in the third round, with the referee stopping the contest after the second knockdown. Whitley becomes the new champion.
Due to last minute card changes, the main card absorbed two fights which were originally scheduled for New Heroes. Cristian Spetcu vs. Turan Hasanov and Dumitru Topai vs. Victor Rosado were both moved to the World Grand Prix. However, this was probably a blessing in disguise as a new match was added to the New Heroes lineup, a female bout, pitting Ruth Kulian against Carmarie Matos. This was easily the most action-packed fight of the evening and a definite crowd pleaser. These two ladies went toe to toe for all three rounds, giving it all they had. Kulian wins by split decision.
In the World Grand Prix portion of the event, which will be replaying on FightBox in about a month’s time, the main event saw England’s Daniel Sam, who was a guest on The FightBox Podcast, take on Superkombat’s most popular fighter Catalin Morosanu. Morosanu has had a lot of success against bigger fighters before in Superkombat, but not on this day. Although Morosanu seemed to not only be throwing, but landing more shots, Sam won by split decision, which now qualifies him for a heavyweight title match in Superkombat later this year.
It’s also worth noting that Superkombat President Eduard Irimia and his business partner in Puerto Rico, Richy Miranda-Cortese, have announced that “Superkombat Academy House”, a new reality show, will begin filming in Puerto Rico in 2016. So, more Superkombat action can be expected soon from the Caribbean.
The next live event on FightBox HD will be the KOK Hero’s Series from Moldova on April 9th. The next Superkombat event will be on May 7th from Bucharest, Romania. Stay tuned to our official Facebook Page for all the latest info.
