FightBox is proud to announce that ESPN Africa Boxing, one of the greatest new boxing franchises, will return to live action from Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday February 24th, 2022 starting at 8:00 pm CET (9:00 pm local time).
ESPN Africa Boxing is back for their second event of 2022. In the main event Phila Mponstshane (15-2) is looking to bounce back after suffering the first loss of his career, which happened in his last fight, back in September of 2019. In this fight Mponstshane will be making his fifth defense of the South African Super Featherweight Title against the more experienced Sibusiso Zingange (16-5-2). Both men are confident in their abilities to take home the win in this 12 round fight on the big stage in their home country.
In the co-main event of the evening the ABU Women’s Flyweight Title is up for grabs when South Africa’s Simangele Hadebe (10-3-2) faces Tanzania’s Halima Vunjabei (10-7-1) in a 10 round contest. Hadebe is riding a five fight win streak coming in to the bout. In a recent ESPN interview, she stated that she is taking the fight very seriously and is not taking anything for granted. “I’m ready for anything. If she doesn’t step up and bring on the fight, I’ll bring the fight to her,” says Hadebe. Vunjabei is younger, more experienced and holds more stoppage victories than her adversary, which could make her a tricky opponent. The full fight card for the evening can be found below.
