MFC 12 will be live on FightBox HD on Saturday September 16th from Zielona Góra, Poland. Makowski Fighting Championships is one of Poland’s top fight promotions, having regularly organized events in the western part of the country for the last eight years. It attracts all kinds of combat sports fans due to the range of disciplines that can be found on the same card. Each MFC event usually consists of several kickboxing bouts and at least one MMA and Muay Thai fight.
Another reason for their success is the quality of the fighters that they use. The star of MFC is the man who lends his name to the promotion, Tomek Makowski, a nine time world champion. Other top kickboxers who have appeared for Glory have made a name for themselves in MFC such as Paweł Jędrzejczyk, Łukasz Pławecki and Rafał Dudek as have top female fighters like the current UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk. On Saturday September 16th another top female athlete from Poland will have her chance in MFC, Emilia Czerwińska.
Emilia is a 27 year old kickboxer from Zielona Góra, Poland, the same city where MFC 12 will be taking place. Like most Polish kickboxers she has a strong amateur background and is a multi-time Polish Champion as well as a member of Poland’s national team. In April she challenged Thea Therese for the WAKO Pro -60 kg Championship, losing a close decision that many feel should have gone her way.
At MFC 12 Czerwińska will face Michaela Michl of Germany, who is already known to Polish fans. At the last Makowski Fighting Championship event on December 3rd of last year, she defeated Joanna Swiatkiewicz by TKO in the third round. She is also known to train at Hemmer’s Gym in Holland, one of the top kickboxing gyms in the world where such fighters as Jamal Ben Saddik, Errol Zimmerman, Marat Grigorian and many others call home. I had a chance to ask Emilia a few questions before her fight and this is what she had to say.
Daniel Austin (DA): For fans that will be seeing you fight for the first time, what can they expect from you in the ring?
Emilia Czerwińska (EC): I can say that they can expect a lot of emotions during this fight. It is going to be a hard fight and the strongest in Poland. It will be three rounds of three minutes, full of action. It will be interesting. Women are more courageous than men.
DA: How do you feel about fighting for the MFC organization?
EC: I always wanted to fight for MFC, so my dreams have come true. It feels great. I'm getting really, really well prepared. I'm glad that everyone will be able to see what kind of hard work I'm doing and how I'm doing it. MFC itself is an organically top-level promotion.
DA: MFC 12 will be a memorial show in honor of Dawid Mora. Did you know Dawid? What does it mean for you to be fighting on this event?
EC: Yes, David Mora was my friend. I knew him from trainings. He left us too soon. I am glad that this event is dedicated to this warrior. The emptiness remains in the hearts of all who knew him. Also, David, keep your fingers crossed. We're fighting for you!
DA: Your opponent will be Michaela Michl who is known to train at the prestigious Hemmer’s Gym. What are your thoughts on this fight?
EC: I think both of us will be well prepared. The fight will be strong and tough.
DA: What are you doing in preparation for this fight?
EC: I am preparing for camps with my coach Bogumił Połoński. I'm going to spar in other cities and I also train with Tomek Makowski himself. My team is consistent and very helpful. I trust them.
DA: What would you like to say to your opponent before the fight?
EC: I really like Michaela. I wish her good luck.
